CANBERRA NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL 2015

CANBERRA NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL 2015

Food, glorious food! If there's one thing I associate with February in Canberra, it's food, because that's the month of the National Multicultural Festival. I take my 'job' as a foodie seriously and would never miss spending a day surrounded by one of my favourite things. This is not something I take lightly. There's a plan and there are rules that must be adhered to. Plan: Get there at lunchtime and don't skip breakfast, but don't fill up on breakfast either.  Rule: Focus on foods not easily found around town, or I can make at home. Also…Read more …

A GAZILLION THINGS TO DO IN CAIRNS (OR MAYBE 8)

A list of a gazillion things to do in Cairns. OK, so maybe it's just 8, but it's still 8 fun things!  I headed up to Cairns earlier this year and spent a week in this adventure land, although at the time I had no idea how much adventure there was to be had. At the end of it, I really felt like one week was just not enough and I'm already planning my next visit.   Cairns is located in the north east coast of Queensland, and is a tourist hub thanks…Read more …
5 CANBERRA FESTIVALS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

5 CANBERRA FESTIVALS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS!

These top 5 Canberra festivals are a must do! If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard someone say Canberra is boring, I would probably be writing this post while relaxing in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora, sipping on Moet (my dream holiday, btw). But sadly, this comes to you from my couch in Kingston with David Attenborough playing in the background. That does not mean the common sentiment about Canberra being boring doesn’t come up often. I’ll be the first to admit that Canberra is no Melbourne or Sydney…Read more …
RUBICON CANBERRA – FOOD AND BEER DEGUSTATION REVIEW

RUBICON CANBERRA – FOOD AND BEER DEGUSTATION REVIEW

Rubicon Canberra is a fine dining restaurant located at Griffith shops. Rubicon serves contemporary Australian cuisine and great wines. Canberra recently celebrated beer week and local businesses jumped on board to offer up beer based goodness to beer lovers. I got pretty excited when I found out my favourite restaurant in Canberra, Rubicon, was doing a seven course degustation with each course paired with beer. Yes, you heard that right – seven course fine dining menu matched with BEER! I’ll admit that I had my doubts. For me, beer has always been consumed…Read more …
MOVING TO CANBERRA – WHERE TO MEET PEOPLE IN A NEW CITY

MOVING TO CANBERRA – WHERE TO MEET PEOPLE IN A NEW CITY

Moving to Canberra, or any new city, IS a big deal. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve done it before, leaving your comfort zone for something new will always be a unique experience. When I moved to Canberra I thought I knew it all. I had just spent the last few months living in England and just before then, in Dubai. I was seasoned, so how hard could Canberra be? It was hard! There were highs and lows and everything in between. But eventually, things settled down. So take it all in…Read more …
MOVING TO CANBERRA – FINDING THE BEST SUBURB FOR YOU

MOVING TO CANBERRA – FINDING THE BEST SUBURB FOR YOU

Maybe you've decided you're moving to Canberra. Or perhaps you’re toying with the idea of doing so. Picking the right suburb to live in can make a world of difference when you get here. When I first moved to Canberra, I found a place out in the burbs and remained there for much of the time. I didn't particularly love it, but it was convenient and cheap so I stayed in the same house for a good few years. However, when the lease came up for renewal this year, we decided the time…Read more …
