FOOD TRUCKS: MELBOURNE vs CANBERRA

FOOD TRUCKS: MELBOURNE vs CANBERRA

The battle is on starting with the Melbourne vs Canberra food trucks and the results will surprise you!  Every country indulges in it regularly: the city versus city rivalry. Sometimes, the debate extends beyond national boundaries – heard much about the 'is London or Manhattan better' argument? I have! Australia boasts it's very own with the Sydney versus Melbourne saga. This debate, my friends, is as much a national sport in this sports crazed nation as is the AFL, rugby, cricket, tennis, fishing, soccer and swimming. There are many pages on the interwebs…Read more …
BREAKFAST AT AUTOLYSE BAKERY BRADDON

BREAKFAST AT AUTOLYSE BAKERY BRADDON

Autolyse Bakery is located in Braddon and serves fresh bread, pastries and sandwiches and is open for breakfast and lunch.  Walking around Braddon one sunny Saturday morning, it was hard not to notice the growing number of restaurants and cafes that continue to open in the area. But today I chose an old favourite – Autolyse Bakery. Autolyse Bakery is a French bakery that has resided on Lonsdale street for some years now. Even with all the new eateries opening nearby, the bakery continues to attract a healthy flow of customers, which is…Read more …
DINNER AT COCONINE IN KINGSTON

DINNER AT COCONINE IN KINGSTON

Coconine in Kingston is a Thai restaurant on the Kingston Foreshore in Canberra. Coconine has been part of Kingston Foreshore for a few months now but it was only recently that I had a chance to pay them a visit. I've walked past this restaurants many times and the delicious smells wafting through it's wide open doors always made me hungry – even if I'd only just had dinner! So before I left to spend a week in balmy Cairns, it was date night at Coconine. The restaurant is large with matching décor…Read more …
RECIPE – DELICIOUS JAM DROP COOKIES

RECIPE – DELICIOUS JAM DROP COOKIES

Jam drop cookies are, by far, one of my favourite kind of cookies. They are cheap and incredibly easy to make and taste best when served straight out of the oven. I often take these into work and find they disappear fairly quickly. The jams I usually use are apricot, sour cherry and strawberry. This does not need fancy smancy jams and any variety from the supermarket will do just fine. Occasionally, I will use lemon butter if I have leftovers sitting in the fridge and that works pretty well. I'm yet to…Read more …
RUBICON CANBERRA – FOOD AND BEER DEGUSTATION REVIEW

RUBICON CANBERRA – FOOD AND BEER DEGUSTATION REVIEW

Rubicon Canberra is a fine dining restaurant located at Griffith shops. Rubicon serves contemporary Australian cuisine and great wines. Canberra recently celebrated beer week and local businesses jumped on board to offer up beer based goodness to beer lovers. I got pretty excited when I found out my favourite restaurant in Canberra, Rubicon, was doing a seven course degustation with each course paired with beer. Yes, you heard that right – seven course fine dining menu matched with BEER! I’ll admit that I had my doubts. For me, beer has always been consumed…Read more …
ZUCCHINI AND CORN FRITTERS WITH AVOCADO SALSA

ZUCCHINI AND CORN FRITTERS WITH AVOCADO SALSA

Since posting photos of my breakfast of zucchini and corn fritters, I've received numerous requests for the recipe. A side of avocado salsa adds a bit of freshness to the dish. These fritters are really easy to prepare, and if you leave the batter to sit for at least hour an hour before cooking, the flavours develop very nicely. Ingredients For the zucchini and corn fritters 410g tin of corn kernels, drained 170g zucchini, grated 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1/3 cup milk 1 cup plain flour, sifted 1 tsp cumin powder 1 tsp…Read more …
